Chris Hsu
BMUS | ARCT

Chris is a Taiwanese piano teacher based in Richmond BC, with 20 years of piano playing experience and has worked with many young students well over a decade. He holds an ARCT Diploma in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria studying under renown piano professors including Ellen Silverman, Michelle Mares, and Arthur Rowe.

Chris’ teaching style is flexible depending on each student’s learning capabilities and their direction of musical interests. It is very important to him that his students enjoys learning music with him, so he tends to be more casual and affectionate towards his students in his teachings, especially his younger students. Occasionally, he will arrange well known music into duets for his younger students to play and further develop their musical interest with a sense of accomplishment as an extra activity besides learning from the standard curriculum.

Over many years of teaching, Chris has been praised by fellow teachers and colleagues for his attentiveness, approach to musical details and patience in working with his younger students. His pleasant teaching style combined with professional piano pedagogical approach has brought many students success in piano performances and musical examinations. Many of his students have achieved an excellent exam result of First Class Honours with Distinction.

Chris strongly believes that music lessons should be fun and enjoyable but also with purposeful learning opportunities for students to progress and grow as a musician. He is constantly exploring new teaching ideas to bring enjoyment in his lessons. Through his teaching, he enjoys making new connections with families he met and hopes to continue to meet and inspire new students the joy of learning and playing the piano.
